Motherhood is a beautiful journey filled with love, joy, and purpose. As women, we were made to create, nurture, and support our families, often putting their needs above our own. We run our race tirelessly, making sure everyone on our little team is taken care of, propelled forward by an innate desire – nay, need – to keep things moving as seamlessly as possible for the health and sanity not only of ourselves but of those in our charge. Sometimes we’re recognized for it, often we aren’t. But we do it all anyway, and even those of us with the most amazing support systems and the most wonderful families that we are undoubtedly deeply grateful for – even we face obstacles. We face the tiny, day-to-day challenges that come with raising little humans with big opinions; and we sometimes face the monumental, life-changing challenges that leave a wake of disturbances we must learn to deal with for years to come. No matter the size or the outcome, we will face challenges at some point or other.
In those times of need, God’s Word offers comfort, guidance, and encouragement. It invites us to lay our worries aside, sit at the feet of Jesus, and receive the goodness of His promises. Here are five verses to help encourage those who are facing challenges, big or small.
Isaiah 41:10
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
No matter what challenges you face, remember that God is by your side, with your every step of the way. Let His presence provide the strength and support you need, especially when your patience is wearing thin. Turn to Him in prayer during challenging times; neglecting prayer is like forgetting to fuel up before a long race.
Psalm 46: 1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
In times of trouble, let God be your refuge, your strong tower. Run to Him, for He is a safe place and source of strength, no matter the struggle. Seek Him, even on those challenging days, through prayer, quiet reflection, or through reading scripture.
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
Motherhood requires immense strength, patience, and grace. All of us run short on these from time to time; after all, we’re only human. Thankfully, God has an endless supply of these qualities, and He promises to give freely to those who ask. So, ask Him, but don’t just ask, expect Him to answer and look for those little glimmers of hope that He provides in your present struggles.
Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
For a lot of moms, at least the ones I know, rest doesn’t come easy. There’s always so much to do, and so many to care for, and we’re tasked with doing it. So how do we factor in rest? While that is completely up to you and your family, I encourage you to make rest a priority. And in the meantime, remember that Jesus invites us to come to Him for rest. Cast your burdens on Him; rest in Him and know that He is the ultimate source of peace.
Proverbs 31:25
Strength and dignity are her clothing. She laughs at the time to come.
Mothers are a strong breed. That’s the way God created us, and his Word acknowledges the strength and honor of the diligent, God-fearing woman. A mom truly rooted in the love and Word of God is immovable and able to experience joy, even in hardship. She understands who is ultimately in control and who will safeguard her family, even in difficult times. She doesn’t fret, but instead works diligently toward her goal, remembering that she is honored and worthy.
Even though it may not always seem like it, as a mother, and as a woman, you are valued. You are cherished, loved, and honored. Not just by your children, but by your Father in Heaven who sees your every move, who knows every tear and struggle. It may be easy to forget why we do what we do, but one day, we’ll be able to see the fruits of our labor and realize that these days, hard as they are, were worth it.
