Summer is in full swing and with it, summer activities. Hours on the lake with family, or sweltering afternoons at the baseball field – all fun, but sweat-inducing events that might leave you parched. When temps rise, our bodies crave more than just plain water. Sometimes water is just not enough to open the cells for deep hydration. Besides, water alone can actually dehydrate you (find out why below!) That’s where these healthy summer drinks come in; they’re your greatest assets to staying refreshed, energized, and naturally radiant from the inside out. Whether you’re lounging by the pool or powering through a workout, these clean, healthy drink recipes are packed with nutrients for skin and hair, as well as hydration heroes like coconut water and electrolytes.
Why Hydration Matters in Summer
Out bodies lose more fluids through sweat during the hot months, which can leave us dehydrated, sluggish, and more prone to breakouts. Staying hydrated flushes toxins, boosts energy and digestion, and keeps our skin glowing. You might recognize some of these ingredients, like cucumber and green tea, in your clean beauty products, and they do wonders when sipped in these healthy summer drinks.
Glow Green Juice
Best for: Skin clarity, gentle detox, and morning energy
Ingredients:
- 1 cucumber
- 4-5 ribs celery
- 1 green apple
- ¼ cup fresh parsley
- ½ lemon, peeled
- 1 small piece fresh ginger (optional)
Directions:
Juice everything using a juicer. If you don’t have one, blend with a little water and strain through a nut milk bag or fine sieve.
Why it works:
Cucumber and celery are hydrating and full of minerals, while parsley is great for liver support and skin clarity. Green apple adds a touch of sweetness.
Iced Matcha Mint Latte
Best for: Focus, metabolism support, and energy
- 1 tsp matcha
- ¼ cup hot water
- ½ cup unsweetened almond or coconut milk
- Handful of fresh mint leaves
- 1 tsp maple syrup or honey
- Ice
Directions:
Whisk matcha into hot water until dissolved. Combine with milk, mint, and sweetener of choice and blend. Pour over ice (or it can also be enjoyed warm).
Why it works:
Matcha gives your energy and is loaded with antioxidants. Mint adds a cooling twist that makes this a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up.
Tropical Green Smoothie
Best for: Digestion and hydration
- ¼ cup frozen mango
- 1 cup kale or spinach
- 1 cup coconut water
- ½ cup orange juice
- 1 banana
- Optional: Handful of microgreens
Directions: Blend all ingredients together in a blender until smooth. Add more orange juice if it’s too thick.
Why it works: Mango has vitamin c, and coconut water is nature’s electrolyte powerhouse – packed with potassium and magnesium.
Vanilla Chia Protein Shake
Best for: Post-workout recovery or a quick snack
Ingredients:
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- ½ banana
- 1 cup unsweetened almond or coconut milk
- Sprinkle cinnamon
- Ice
Directions: Blend everything together in a blender. Add more milk or ice as needed when blending to get the right consistency.
Why it works: Protein is key for collagen production, and chia seeds offer omega-3s and fiber for glowing skin and better digestion. Bonus: If you’re into seed cycling, this smoothie is a great way to get those seeds in.
DIY Electrolyte Drink
Best for: Rehydration
Ingredients
- 2 cups coconut water
- Juice of ½ lemon
- Pinch of Himalayan or Celtic sea salt
- 1 tsp maple syrup or honey
- Optional: ¼ tsp magnesium powder (I use this one, but magnesium malate or glycinate also work)
Why it works: Salt, sugar, and minerals create the balance needed to replenish electrolytes naturally.
Did you know: Drinking too much water can throw off your electrolyte balance and leave you dehydrated. If you’re sweating, make sure you get electrolytes from somewhere.
Final Sip: Hydrate, Glow, Repeat
Hydrating well in the summer doesn’t mean chugging a gallon of plain water every day (does anyone else remember that fad?) These healthy summer drinks offer real benefits, from reducing bloating and supporting liver detox to glowing skin and refreshing snacks. Enjoy these all summer long, and stay hydrated, friends.
